Welcome to the Leigh web site

Leigh is a village in Kent, situated about 3 miles west of Tonbridge. At one time in its past, the village name was spelled Lyghe, which explains why locally it is pronounced 'Lie'.

The parish includes nearly 700 households, with roughly 1,500 people living in them, in a mixture of houses from ancient to modern. The village has a large green at its centre, on which the village sign can be seen (see picture on the right), depicting the local Deer population, the bridge over the River Medway, the old village pump, and the old local industry of making cricket bats and balls. The industry has not survived, but cricket is played regularly on the village green, as well as football and stoolball.

This web site has been created by a small team of volunteers, set up by the Parish Council as a result of a survey of villagers, to promote the village and its activities.

The initial aim of this web site is to provide information which will be of interest to residents, but as the site expands it will also be of interest to anyone who is planning to visit the area, or considering moving to the area.

Please let us have any comments or criticisms of the site, and particularly any information which could be included on the site. Without this feedback the site will not grow or become the resource which will be useful to all.
